How AmeraLite Measures Trailer Size — Why It Matters When You Compare

AmeraLite measures every Storm by the rectangular floor. When AmeraLite says 6×12, you get a true 6' × 12' rectangular floor (72 sq ft). The 18" slant V-nose at the front adds bonus storage on top — perfect for helmets, fuel jugs, gear bags, toolboxes, and gas cans — but never counted in the advertised size.
This is not how every aluminum trailer brand measures. Many manufacturers — including some major Michigan brands — count the V-nose toward the advertised length. Their spec sheets typically include a small note like "6' Wide — Includes a 1' V-Nose" or "7' Wide — Includes a 5' V-Nose", often buried beneath the size header. So a competitor's "6×13" trailer with a "1' V-nose included" actually has the same 6' × 12' rectangular floor as the AmeraLite Storm 6×12 — they just advertised it as 13 feet because they added the V-nose to the number.
How to spot the difference before you buy:
- Ask any dealer for the manufacturer's spec sheet (PDF, not the website).
- Look for any phrase like "includes a __' V-nose" beneath the model name.
- Subtract that V-nose number from the advertised length. That's the real rectangular floor you get.
- Compare THAT number — not the advertised number — to the length of your motorcycle, snowmobile, ATV, or cargo.
When in doubt, drive to AAA Trailer in Howell and we'll show you the tape measure on every model in stock. We'd rather you compare honestly and pick the right trailer than buy on a number that turns out to be misleading.
Why AmeraLite Aluminum Beats Steel-Framed Cargo Trailers
- No rust, ever. Aluminum doesn't corrode like galvanized or painted steel. Michigan road salt is no match for an all-aluminum frame.
- Hundreds of pounds lighter. A 6×12 AmeraLite Storm weighs roughly 1,400 lbs vs 1,800–2,100 lbs for an equivalent steel-framed cargo trailer. Easier on your tow vehicle, better fuel economy, more payload capacity.
- Higher resale value. Aluminum trailers hold value far better than steel because there's no body rot, no frame corrosion, no failing welds 10 years in.
- Made in the USA. Manufactured by Forest River — the largest RV and trailer manufacturer in North America — with full parts availability and warranty support.
- Lower lifetime cost. No paint touch-ups, no welding repairs, no underbody rust treatments to pay for every spring.
Common AmeraLite Storm Uses
Our AmeraLite Storm customers haul motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs and 4-wheelers, lawn equipment, mobile detailing rigs, contractor tools, vending equipment, and personal storage. The all-aluminum construction makes them especially popular for buyers who park outside and want decades of service life without rust eating the frame.
Sizing reference:

Frequently Asked Questions About AmeraLite Storm Trailers
How heavy is an AmeraLite Storm 6×12?
About 1,400 lbs empty depending on options. A V6 SUV or half-ton truck handles it easily.
Is AmeraLite all-aluminum or just aluminum-skinned?
The Storm has a welded all-aluminum tube frame, aluminum exterior skin, aluminum cross-members, and an aluminum roof — no structural steel. That's what makes it rust-proof and several hundred pounds lighter than competing brands.
What's the warranty on AmeraLite Storm?
Forest River provides a multi-year structural warranty on AmeraLite Storm frames. AAA Trailer handles all warranty service locally — no shipping the trailer back to the factory.
Do you finance AmeraLite trailers?
Yes — Sheffield financing with approvals in minutes on every in-stock AmeraLite. Get pre-qualified here.
Can I pick up the same day?
If the trailer is in stock at our Howell lot, yes. Call ahead to confirm availability and we'll have it hitched, plated, and ready when you arrive.
Does my hitch ball fit?
The 5' and 6' wide single-axle Storm trailers use a standard 2" ball coupler. We stock replacement couplers, ball mounts, and 4-pin / 7-pin wiring adapters if you need them.
Are AmeraLite Storms V-nose or flat-front?
The Storm lineup is V-nose standard — an 18" slant V-nose on 5' and 6' wide models. The V-nose improves aerodynamics, reduces fuel consumption on the highway, and adds usable bonus storage at the front of the trailer (without being counted in the advertised size).
What colors are available?
Standard AmeraLite Storm trailers come in White. The Spring Edition 6×10 is available in White or Black. The Blackout Package is available as an option on Spring Edition models. Custom color orders available with a 6–8 week lead time.
What's included as standard?
Every Storm comes with: all-aluminum tube frame, ramp door (or rear cargo doors on 5' wide), 32" side door with bar lock, 24" stoneguard, 3/8" engineered wood walls, 3/4" engineered wood floor, LED clearance/tail/brake/back-up lights, interior LED dome light with switch, smooth aluminum fenders, jack with sand pad, and one-piece aluminum roof.
