Silver Ox 7x16 Tandem Axle Aluminum Trailer — HD Ox Tail Dovetail Package
...
false
The Silver Ox 7x16 HD Ox Tail is built around one idea: a short ramp is a strong ramp. We cut the rear ramp gate down to 30 inches and cut a dovetail into the deck to pay back the load angle — so you get a far higher ramp rating without a steeper climb.
Why a Shorter Ramp Loads Heavier
Ramp capacity falls off as the ramp gets longer. A long gate is a long lever with your load sitting out in the middle of it, and every foot of length costs you rated capacity. Cutting the ramp to 30 inches is what lets this gate carry substantially more than the full-length ramp on a standard utility trailer.
The catch with any short ramp is the angle — shorter normally means steeper. The integrated dovetail solves it. The rear section of the deck slopes down to meet the ramp, so the load angle comes out at a genuine 20 degrees. To reach a 20-inch deck at 20 degrees, a straight ramp has to run close to five feet. The Ox Tail does it with thirty inches.
Short ramp. Strong ramp. Easy load angle. You do not give up one to get the others.
Built for Tractors and Equipment
Dual 3,500 lb axles with electric brakes on both, 16" on-center floor cross members, and rear stabilizer jacks that hold the trailer level while you drive on. The compact tractor with a front loader in the photos weighs roughly 4,500 lbs and loads with capacity to spare.
This is the trailer for compact and sub-compact tractors, small skid steers, side-by-sides, and anything you would rather drive on than winch on.
Easier to Tow, Too
A 30" gate standing upright presents a fraction of the sail area of a full-height ramp. Less wind drag behind the truck means a quieter tow and less fuel burned on the highway — every mile, loaded or empty.
All-Aluminum Advantage
Frame, rails, fenders, dovetail and ramp are all aluminum. No rust, no rot, no repainting. Michigan winters, road salt, wet loads and outdoor storage do not touch it. The aluminum build also keeps the empty weight low enough for most half-ton trucks and full-size SUVs to tow comfortably.
The ramp is aluminum too, so it is light enough to raise and lower by hand with no spring-assist mechanism — one fewer part to fail. Steel trailer owners replace spring assists. Silver Ox owners do not have one.
