Is My Hydraulic Power Unit Actually a KTI? How to Identify the Brand

🔍
Quick Answer

Check the remote first — every KTI remote pendant has "KTI" printed on it without exception. Then look for the silver KTI nameplate on the motor or manifold body. If either says KTI, it's KTI. The Universal Manifold® design with H-pattern cartridge cavities is also unique to KTI.

Check 1 — Look at the Remote Pendant

Pick up your wired remote and look at it closely — front, back, and sides. Every KTI remote has "KTI" printed or embossed on it without exception. It may appear as "KTI" molded into the yellow plastic body, "KTI Hydraulics" on a label, or "KTI Hydraulics Inc." on the cable or connector housing.

Caveat on Used Trailers

On a used trailer, the remote could have been replaced. A KTI remote does not guarantee a KTI pump if the trailer has been serviced with mixed parts. Always confirm with the pump nameplate as well.

Check 2 — Find the Nameplate on the Pump

Location What You'll See
Motor body (cylindrical) Stamped metal tag reading "KTI Hydraulics Inc." with model number, serial number, voltage, and address (Santa Ana, CA)
Manifold block (aluminum) KTI logo and model designations (DC26, DC36, DC-45597) cast or stamped into the manifold
Reservoir KTI logo sticker on poly reservoirs; stamped tag on steel reservoirs
Solenoid valve coils KTI-specific part numbers: LSV-08-2NCP, LSPC-08-4-00, LSV2-08-4CO

Check 3 — Recognize the Universal Manifold®

KTI invented and holds the patent on the Universal Manifold® — the machined aluminum block the motor, pump, and valves all attach to. Key visual characteristics: small dense aluminum block roughly brick-sized, four threaded cartridge cavities in an H-pattern on the face, SAE O-ring port fittings, clean machined finish. If your hydraulic valves are self-contained cartridges threaded into a compact aluminum block, it's almost certainly KTI.

Check 4 — Identify KTI-Specific Part Numbers

Part Number Component
DC26, DC26-S, DC36 Complete single-acting power unit model designations
DC-45597, DC-45598 Double-acting and single-acting complete unit series
LSV-08-2NCP Gravity-down solenoid valve (single-acting pumps)
LSPC-08-4-00 Load-holding valve (double-acting pumps)
1245-15, 1245-18 12V DC motor models used across the KTI line
PL-2.10 Gear pump used in most KTI single and double-acting units

What If I Still Can't Tell?

Send us a photo. Text or call (517) 225-1991 with photos of the motor nameplate, the manifold block, and the remote — we'll identify it from the photos. This matters most when ordering replacement valves, motors, or wireless controllers, since KTI part numbers are specific and won't fit non-KTI units.

Frequently Asked Questions

My remote says KTI but the pump looks different from photos online. Could it be a knockoff?
KTI has updated their product line over the years and also manufactures custom OEM units that look different from catalog products. The part numbers and nameplate are more reliable identifiers than visual comparison to a specific photo.
The sticker on my pump is missing. Can I still get parts?
Yes — if the Universal Manifold® design is present, we can identify which KTI cartridge valves fit by the cavity size and circuit configuration. Call us with photos.
