KTI LSPC-080-4-00 Load Holding Valve — Normally-Closed 2-Way with Pilot-Operated Check, 4-Way Cartridge — for Double-Acting KTI Hydraulic Power Units
The LSPC-080-4-00 is the factory load-holding cartridge valve installed in all KTI double-acting hydraulic power units. It combines a normally-closed 2-way solenoid valve and a pilot-operated check valve into a single 4-way cartridge — responsible for holding your dump bed in position when the pump is off, and releasing it on command when you power down.
When this valve wears out, symptoms include: dump bed slowly drifting down under load with the pump off, failure to retract the cylinder on command, internal oil bypass that makes the pump run but not produce pressure, or weeping past the cartridge body. This is the standard replacement cartridge — typically used with the square coil LC-08-S-5B on the down circuit of double-acting pumps.
🔧 How It Works
The valve performs two critical functions:
- Load holding (energized off): Blocks flow from ports 1→2 and 4→3, preventing the bed from dropping under load. Allows free flow 2→1 and 3→4 for unloaded conditions.
- Controlled release (energized on): When the solenoid is powered, the valve opens the 4→3 path, allowing controlled bed lowering. Pilot ratio is 2.5:1 — the valve opens at 1/2.5 of the load pressure, giving smooth controlled lowering without slam.

💡 Pro Tips — Installation
- Check for contamination first. Before installing the new valve, visually inspect the cavity in the manifold for burrs or metal shavings. Contamination is the #1 cause of valve failure.
- Lubricate all O-rings and back-up rings. Coat every O-ring on the valve cartridge with clean hydraulic fluid before insertion. A dry O-ring can shear or extrude into the cavity during install, causing immediate leakage.
- Hand-tighten first, then use a 15/16" deep socket to final-torque.
- Do not exceed 18 ft-lb. Overtightening will damage the cartridge body and the manifold cavity.
- After install, cycle the hydraulic system a few times without load to purge any air and verify proper operation before loading the trailer.
❓ FAQ
My dump bed is drifting down — is this the right part?
Most likely yes. Bed drift on a KTI double-acting system is almost always caused by the load-holding valve leaking internally (wear, contamination, or coil failure). This is the factory replacement.
How do I know if it's the LSPC or the LSV2 that's bad?
If the bed drifts DOWN under its own weight with the pump off, it's typically the LSPC-080-4-00 (load holding). If the bed won't extend (pump runs but nothing happens), it's more often the LSV2-08-4CO (directional). Many service techs replace both as a rebuild pair.
Do I need a new coil too?
Not usually. If your old coil still clicks/energizes when voltage is applied, reuse it. Only replace the coil (LC-08-S-5B) if it's visibly damaged, melted, or electrically open.
Does this fit power-up / gravity-down pumps?
This specific cartridge is for double-acting (power up / power down) pumps. For power-up/gravity-down systems, the valve configuration differs — call us at 517-225-1991 to confirm before ordering.
